MC floats tenders for development works

The Municipal Corporation of Bathinda (MCB) has floated tenders for various development works in the city. Tenders have been floated for installing incinerators to dispose of dead animals, development and maintenance of basic amenities like sewer lines, streetlights, roads, installing interlocking tiles and parks, desilting of Gunda Nullah and designated three areas for disposal of construction and demolition materials in the city. This was stated by MC Commissioner Bikramjit Singh Shergill during a press conference held at the MCB office here on Thursday.

The MC Commissioner said apart from completing development works, the stray cattle issue would be tackled. He said the lifting of dead animals had become a problem which was raised multiple times so “we have made a provision to procure and install two incinerators in the city so that dead animals could be disposed of easily,” said Shergill.

The MC chief said all development works, including sewerage lines, roads, streetlights, garbage disposal, drinking water facility, installation of interlocking tiles, beautification of parks, among other things, would be carried out on priority and tenders for these works had already been floated.

Shergill said, “Apart from lifting garbage from residential areas, to lift garbage from commercial areas and shops in the city, 17 garbage collection tippers have been put to service that would be collecting garbage from 6 pm to 11 pm on a daily basis.”

During the meeting it was stated that a sewer line and a treatment plant would be built from Transport Nagar to Chandbhan area at an estimated cost of Rs 14.69 crore. For installing interlocking tiles from Baba Deep Singh Nagar till Dabwali Road, approximately Rs 46 lakh would be utilised. The desilting work at Gunda Nullah is already continuing and for the boundary wall of dirty water pond at DAV College tenders would be floated. Tenders for the sewer line from Powerhouse Road to the sludge carrier would also be floated. Besides, for the beautification of the Sanjay Nagar pond, a pathway would be built. Moreover, the pending sewer line works in the city would be expedited on priority, said the MC chief.

During the meeting, the MCB also identified 61 different points where debris was lying. It designated three locations in the city that would be used as dumping sites. The MCB Commissioner said the F&CC meeting would be called soon to ensure that no development work was kept pending in the city.
