Dr. Rajiv Sachdeva has joined as the SMO, bringing some stability to the hospital administration, according to local health department employees.

Earlier, Dr. Arpan was holding the officiating charge of SMO, but he managed the post for only a brief period. Before him, Dr. Bandana was looking after the charge.

However, she opted for voluntary retirement in the first week of June. Now, Dr. Rajiv Sachdeva has taken over as the new SMO.

He was earlier posted at the Badal Civil Hospital.

Significantly, the Muktsar Civil Hospital, which is the district hospital, had been functioning without a regular SMO for almost two years, with different doctors being given officiating charge from time to time. At one stage, Dr. Rahul Jindal had even officiated as SMO.

The frequent changes in the post had reportedly led to administrative inconvenience and a lack of continuity in decision-making.   Some employees at the hospital expressed hope that with a regular officer now in place, the hospital would benefit from better planning and smoother functioning.
