Roads of historic town Muktsar will soon be spick and span as the municipal council (MC) has bought a vacuum sweeper machine at a cost of Rs25 lakh. Muktsar becomes the first town in the district which has the machine.
The tractor-mounted machine will mainly clean the roadsides. Two persons — the tractor driver and machine operator — are required to run the machine.
“This is the first machine in the district and Deputy Commissioner MK Aravind Kumar inaugurated it on Wednesday. It will mainly work at night,” said Bipan Kumar, Executive Officer (EO), Municipal Council, Muktsar.
“The MC is facing a shortage of sweepers. Against the requirement of 150 sweepers, we have just 90 workers. Now, the machine will help us. To deal with the problem of unavailability of one more garbage dump site, we are also buying a tractor-mounted garbage segregating machine at a cost of Rs12 lakh, which will help us in segregating hard waste products. It will make space for more garbage to dump there,” he added.
