The Muktsar Police have received a total of 10,428 complaints related to crimes against women and children in the past three years, but only 46 were converted into FIRs, according to an official data.

Commenting on this, some rights activists said the low number of FIRs raises concerns about whether women and children were getting proper justice and how seriously such cases were taken by the police.

However, Muktsar SSP Akhil Chaudhary said that 7,190 complaints were resolved through counseling, primarily in cases involving domestic disputes.

“Further, 3,137 complaints were found to be either false or already sub-judice. The remaining 46 cases were deemed to involve confirmed criminal offences and led to FIRs,” said the SSP.

He claimed that the police had taken several steps to ensure justice, including personalised counseling for victims, the appointment of women officers for the sensitive handling of cases, legal awareness drives, and doorstep services by the Punjab Police Mahila Mittar (PPMM) team.
