In nearly two years, only 802 complaints have been filed through the police’s public grievance redressal portal in Muktsar district—a figure that SSP Akhil Chaudhary says reflects poor public awareness of the digital facility.

Urging residents to make better use of the portal, the SSP emphasised its convenience and efficiency. “The portal saves time, is transparent, and lets people file complaints without stepping into a police station. Every complaint gets a unique ID and real-time SMS updates, allowing people to track progress from home,” said the SSP.

Launched on July 1, 2022, by the state government, the public grievance redressal portal was envisioned as a paperless, citizen-friendly interface to file complaints related to policing. However, slow adoption has raised concerns, especially when physical visits to police stations can be avoided with a few clicks.

“Anyone with basic smartphone skills can use this platform. Just visit  pgd.punjabpolice.gov.in. It is built to ensure accessibility for everyone,” the SSP added.

He further stated that specially trained staff has been deployed to manage the portal, and that senior officials constantly monitor complaint resolution timelines. “I personally review complaints to ensure timely and fair redressal. There is no room for delay or negligence,” Chaudhary said.

The SSP also indicated that awareness drives would soon be launched to inform citizens—especially in rural areas—about the benefits of this digital platform.
