Bathinda, December 10

Members of the Punjab Student Union on Tuesday staged a protest at Government Rajindra College and demanded action against the head of a department at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital, Faridkot.

The members said the administrative machinery and the police department failed to take an appropriate action against the culprit. Besides, the authorities concerned had been shielding him.

Sangeeta Rani, president of the union, said, “We demand an immediate action against the HoD. We also condemn the use of water cannons and tear gas shells fired by the police to disperse over 200 members of the union and the Naujawan Bharat Sabha when they were marching towards the Deputy Commissioner’s office on December 7. If no action is taken, we will intensify our protest in the coming days.”

Notably, in a complaint to the police, the woman medical officer alleged that after 2016 when she was selected for the postgraduate course in the community medicine department here, she was being harassed by the HoD on one pretext or the other.
