Rain submerges temporary bridge on Muktsar-Malout Road, traffic diverted
Heavy rain that lashed the region Saturday night has led to a sharp rise in the water level of the Chandbhan drain, causing a temporary bridge at Rupana village on the Muktsar-Malout Road to submerge. As a result, traffic on the route has been suspended and diverted to alternate routes via nearby villages.
The submerged bridge had been serving as a crucial link for commuters and vehicles ever since construction began on a permanent structure at the same site.
However, with water levels rising, locals reported that the temporary bridge is barely visible.
“Due to safety concerns, traffic is being diverted through nearby villages until the water recedes and repairs can be carried out. Despite the risk, some people are still attempting to cross,” said Sajan Khosa, a local resident and son of a former sarpanch of Rupana.
Khosa, along with other villagers, expressed concern over the recurring inconvenience caused by delays in the construction of the new bridge, which has reportedly been pending for several months. They urged the administration to expedite the work.
Residents also alleged that the temporary bridge had been in poor condition even before the rains, leading to road mishaps in the past.
