Bathinda, November 19
The department of chemistry and physics, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), Bathinda, organised an inter-institutional science fair- 2019 with the theme “Science: From Concept to Technology” at the main campus.
Students from 32 different institutes, including Central University of Punjab (CUP), Bathinda, Government Rajindra College, Bathinda, Meritorious School, St Xavier School, Rampura, YS School, Barnala, SSD Girls College, Bathinda, and DAV College, Bathinda, participated in the fair.
The science fair was organised to admire budding scientists and make students aware of the latest technology.
Prof Arvind Kumar from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Mohali, inaugurated the fair. He delivered motivational speech and encouraged the students for rational thinking. He also interacted with budding scientists.
Prof Jasbir Singh Hundal, dean, research and development, MRSPTU, gave opening remarks. Dr Seema Sharma, head, department of chemistry welcomed the guest.
The science fair was conducted under three categories— school, undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) level. In the school category, three events namely poster, working model and static model were conducted. The UG and PG events included quiz, debate, and static model, working model, poster and research poster. Total entries in various categories were more than 270.
Dr Anjana Munshi, dean, school of health sciences, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, was the chief guest for valedictory session. Dr Meenu Arora, coordinator of the science fair, presented a vote of thanks.
In the PG category quiz contest, Shallu Garg and Gurpreet Kaur of DAV College won the first prize, while in the UG category Rahul Mittal and Nirmal Singh from Punjabi University, Regional Centre, bagged the first position.
In poster-making contest (PG category), Saurav of the MRSPTU won the first prize, while in the UG category Shamsher Singh of Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology (GZSCCET) bagged the first position. While in the school category, Kiranjeet Kaur from Meritorious School was declared winner. In the poster research, Rupali of CUP was declared winner.
In static model contest (UG category), Rakesh Kumar and Vinod from Government Rajindra College bagged the first position. While in School category, Uttamseh and Mantez Singh from Mount Litera Zee School won the first position in the competition of Static Model.
In working model contest, Tarunpreet Singh of GZSCCET bagged the first position, while Simranpreet Singh and Sopan Garg of St Xavier School were declared winners.
In debate competition (UG & PG category), Lovepreet from SSD Girls College, Bathinda, was declared winner.
