Seminar on Guru Nanak's life at CUPB

To commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB), organised a one-day seminar on ‘life, philosophy and teachings of Guru Nanak on Thursday.

Vice-Chancellor RK Kohli presided over the seminar. Kuldip Singh, chair professor, Satguru Ram Singh Chair, and Harpal Singh Pannu, chair professor, Guru Gobind Singh Chair, participated as the resource persons of the programme. CUPB Registrar KP Singh, along with faculty, staff and students from different departments, was present.

Kuldip Singh said Guru Nanak Bani, written in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Bhai Gurdas’s Varan and Persian literature, helped understand the life and philosophy of the First Guru. He shared the life journey of the Guru from Sri Nankana Sahib (where he spent childhood), Sultanpur Lodhi (where he gained experience), his travel journey to various Asian countries (to spread the message of humanity) to Kartarpur Sahib (where he settled down). He talked about his contribution in awakening mankind.

Harpal Singh Pannu shared birth stories of Baba Nanak by citing Puratan Janaksakhi, Baba Bala Janaksakhi and other main Janamsakhis. He asserted that the life mission of the Guru was to eliminate discrimination from society. He raised his voice against the caste system and gender bias. He stated that Guru Nanak’s teachings of 'kirat karo' (earn livelihood honestly), 'naam japo' (remember God) and 'vand chhako' (share with others and help those in need) are the fundamental principles to lead a peaceful life.
