Suraj, Kiranjot clinch gold

Students showcased their athletic prowess during the 27th annual athletics meet of Giani Zail Singh Campus College of Engineering and Technology (GZSCCET) being organised by Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU) here on Thursday.
MRSPTU vice-chancellor Dr Mohan Paul Singh Ishar was the chief guest and inaugurated the meet. The meet began with a march past by contingents of various participating teams. Scores of athletes took part in the event and a cultural event was also presented.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ishar said, “Sports and co-curricular activities play an important role in shaping the personality of a person. Sports activities create healthy minds, good health, teach us discipline and create team spirit and a good society.”
Students’ Welfare Dean Dr Paramjit Singh, Sports and Youth Welfare Director Dr Bhupinder Pal Singh Dhot and Sports Department president Sikander Singh Sidhu played key role in organising the event. They also highlighted the sports achievements of the university students.
In 800-metre race, Suraj, a mechanical engineering student, won gold medal, Gurpreet Singh of BSc clinched silver and Ashutosh of Electronic Communication Engineering won bronze medal. In 400-metre race (women’s category), Kiranjot (MTech) stood first, Dimple second and Priti third. SAE club of the Department of Mechanical Engineering showcased a vehicle designed by students on the occasion.
