Bathinda, March 1
Members of the BKU Dakonda, BKU Ugrahan and Noujwan Bharat Sabha among other mass organisations staged a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) here in front of the District Administrative Complex on Sunday.
The protesters expressed resentment over the violence that took place at Delhi and had claimed lives of scores of people recently. They raised slogans against the Union Government for not taking required steps to ensure peaceful atmosphere in the country.
They also submitted a memorandum of demands to the Prime Minister via Bathinda Deputy Commissioner. In the memo they had demanded protection for peaceful protesters sitting on indefinite protest at Shaheen Bagh.
The memo also demanded strict action against people who are facilitating violence in the national Capital, kin of those died in the violence be provided adequate compensation and those who got injured must be given free treatment and compensation.
They demanded that bodies of those killed in the incident be handed over to their kin immediately after post-mortem. The police must provide correct information regarding missing people and an adequate compensation to affected people for the loss suffered by them, was demanded.
Decision to prosecute Kanhaiya condemned
Darshan Singh, a CPI district-level union leader in Mansa, said: “The Union Government wants to divert people’s attention from real issues such as unemployment, corruption and economic slowdown. Targeting Muslims, minorities and Dalits has barely served any purpose and rather disturbed peace in the country. To aggravate and disturb communal harmony, the Delhi Government has given its nod to prosecute former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar and two others involved in the sedition case. We have decided that all such moves which go against the secular values of the nation would not be tolerated and we would extend support for the agitations taking place in the country.”
