Withdraw from WTO: Farm union to Centre

Farmers under the banner of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) today held a rally outside the mini secretariat and asked the Centre to “drive out corporates and withdraw from the World Trade Organisation” (WTO).

Harinder Bindu, district president, Women Wing BKU (Ugrahan), said, “On August 8, 1942, Mahatma Gandhi launched Quit India Movement against the Britishers. After 1947, several corporate houses started exploiting the farmers and ordinary people. Everybody should come forward to drive out the corporates from the agriculture sector.”

Shingara Singh Mann, district president, BKU (Ugrahan), said the WTO had been creating policies on behalf of imperialist countries, wealthy families and foreign companies to exploit the economic resources of underdeveloped nations through trade.

The protesters said the Government of India should withdraw from the WTO and cancel anti-people treaties.
