A school bus carrying 50 students skidded off the road as the road got narrow due to soil erosion near a village in Bhiwani district on Wednesday morning, leaving several children with minor injuries.

The bus was travelling from Baliyali village to Bawani Khera town when it veered off the road while trying to give way to an oncoming vehicle. It slipped about six ft into an adjacent field and tilted to one side, but did not overturn.

Residents rushed to the scene and helped rescue the students from the bus. According to eyewitnesses, some children sustained minor injuries, while many others were unharmed and went to school.

Baliyali village Sarpanch Sachin Sardana blamed the incident on negligent driving, stating that the driver failed to navigate a dangerous curve properly. He also pointed to the poor condition of the road, adding that repeated complaints were made to the Public Works Department about erosion along the edges of the stretch. Bawani Khera police station SHO Om Prakash said approximately 50 children were onboard at the time of the accident. “Fortunately, none of the injuries are serious,” he said, noting that while some students returned home, others proceeded to school after the incident.
