10 booked under Gangsters Act for illegal mining in UP
In a major crackdown, the Uttar Pradesh Police have booked 10 individuals — including seven from Haryana’s Yamunanagar district — for alleged involvement in illegal mining in Saharanpur’s Behat area.
The accused have been charged under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986, as per an FIR registered on July 5 at Behat police station based on a complaint filed by Inspector Sube Singh.
The FIR names Anil, Sajad alias Shahjad Gada, Kala alias Israr, Sachin Gurjar, Sunny, Sushil Kumar, and Mohinder, all residents of Yamunanagar. The others — Manga Ram, Sagar and Vikram Singh — hail from Saharanpur district.
According to the FIR, “The members of this gang carry out illegal mining on government and private land in Uttar Pradesh, causing huge losses of revenue to the government and damage to the environment.”
Most of the accused have previous criminal cases registered against them and were allegedly operating a coordinated illegal mining racket across the UP-Haryana border, using it as a cover for evading local enforcement.
The UP police have initiated proceedings under Section 2/3 of the Gangsters Act, with investigations ongoing.
