Panic gripped the city’s busy mobile market in Char Chaman late Monday evening when two unidentified bike-borne men opened fire outside a mobile shop and fled after dropping a ransom slip demanding Rs 1 crore. CCTV footage revealed two young men arriving on a bike and firing two rounds before escaping.
Traders from the market, led by Karnal MLA Jagmohan Anand, met Superintendent of Police (SP) Ganga Ram Punia on Tuesday, demanding swift action. “The culprits must be caught immediately. We have requested full security for the victim and his family. The administration stands firmly with the public,” said Anand, assuring justice and safety.
Sandeep Nagpal, the trader, said that after the firing, the bikers dropped a slip claiming to be members of the Bhanu gang and demanded Rs 1 crore as ransom. “We met the SP, who assured us of full security and safety,” he added. Meanwhile, the police protection has been provided to the trader.“Appropriate security has been given and an investigation is underway. We will ensure the safety and security of the traders,” said SP Punia.
The SP confirmed that the police had launched an investigation to arrest those involved. “All angles are being investigated. The suspects are visible in the CCTV footage. Identification is underway and arrests will be made soon,” he said.
