Both Houses of Parliament adjourned till 2 pm amid protests against SIR by Opposition

Both Houses of Parliament were on Monday adjourned till 2 pm amid vociferous protests by the Opposition over the special intensive revision (SIR) electoral rolls in Bihar and allegations of vote theft.

At 11 am when the Lok Sabha convened for the day, Congress-led Opposition members were on their feet shouting slogans against SIR.

In a warning to the sloganeering Opposition MPs, Speaker Om Birla asked them to raise questions with the same intensity as they “shout slogans”, adding that it would yield some benefits for the people of the country.

He warned the MPs of “decisive action” if they destroyed government property.

“If you try to destroy government property, I will have to take some decisive actions and the people of the country will see you. Action has been taken against members for such incidents in many assemblies. I warn you again. Do not try to destroy government property,” Birla said.

Lok Sabha was adjourned till 12 pm amid unrelenting protests.

At 12 pm, after laying of papers, the House was again adjourned till 2 pm amid protests by the Opposition.

Rajya Sabha too was adjourned till 2 pm within minutes of assembling in the morning.
