The part had formed a fact-finding committee to visit Kolkata and track investigations into the gang-rape of a law student there.

The panel has also sought effective measures to deal with “deteriorating” law and order situation in the TMC-ruled West Bengal, adding that TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee had no right to continue as the CM.

Talking about the findings of the report that was submitted to BJP president JP Nadda today, committee member and ex-Mumbai police chief Satya Pal Singh said, “The handwritten complaint submitted by the victim has been tampered with to remove the names of the accused she had mentioned. Instead, the police cited J, G, S, M in place of those names. If the cops are tampering with the complaint itself, what hope can the victim have of justice?”

The BJP panel also featured former Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb, Rajya Sabha MP Manan Kumar Mishra and former Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi, besides Satya Pal Singh.

Deb demanded Mamata’s resignation, while Singh noted that the committee had recommended a probe either by a central agency or a high-level independent inquiry by people of repute.

Mishra said the Kolkata Police Commissioner (Manoj Jha) evaded queries on why the complaint omitted the names of the complainants.
