Claiming that jobs of 30,000 regular government employees were in peril following the high court order striking down the "bonus marks policy" for breaching the 50 per cent reservation ceiling, Congress MP and general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala alleged that the BJP government in the state had sold a fake dream to the youth in the name of merit-based jobs.

Addressing a press conference here today, Surjewala said that the BJP had come to power by luring the youth with granting reservation in the name of socio-economic criteria for government jobs.

"The government went to the youth with its card of merit-based government jobs and its 'na kharchi, na parchi' slogan. On June 11, 2019, the BJP made a hollow promise of giving 10 marks in government jobs based on socio-economic criteria. Post self-accolades and grabbing power, first in 2019 and again in 2024, by selling the fake dream of “jobs on merit” to Haryana’s youth, the BJP duped them," he said.

Surjewala said that the second false promise the BJP made was that of making transparent recruitments to Group C and Group D posts through CET (Common Entrance Test) by holding CET exam twice a year.

"Now, the policy of giving marks on socio-economic basis has been declared “unconstitutional” by the court. Again, instead of conducting CET exam 10 times in five years (twice a year), CET exam was conducted only once between 2021 and 2025, that too in November 2022. This CET exam was also found erroneous by the court and was set aside," he maintained.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has held that the government's policy as also the jobs given on the basis of “socio-economic criteria” to be erroneous, quashed the same and has ordered to prepare a new merit list of all jobs within three months after removing the marks given for socio-economic criteria.

After this decision, the jobs of more than 30,000 regular government employees, appointed after 2019, are in jeopardy.

"More than 48 hours have passed since the court's decision, but Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has not said anything to reassure the affected employees," he said.

Stating that 30,000 jobs are at risk due to the rejection of socio-economic criteria, he sought to know the solution the government had to offer since the list of jobs would have to be prepared afresh and without the additional marks.
