Book Title: History Dishtory: Adventures and Recipes from the Past

Author: Ranjini Rao and Ruchira Ramanujan

What was the first meal on the Moon? Or the last one on Titanic? Was a stuffed turkey actually part of the first Thanksgiving dinner, and did Queen Marie Antoinette really say, ‘Let them eat cake!’ during the French Revolution? Told through twins, trivia-crazy Siya and budding chef Sam, this book, written by Ranjini Rao and Ruchira Ramanujan, sends kids on an exploration of 15 historic events. There is an app called WayBack, which works like a time machine, and the kids finds themselves sniffing history. From the French Revolution to the Holocaust, from the first Greek Olympiad to the first flight by Wright Brothers, from World War I to the Great Depression, there’s a lot to be discovered. A quiz marks the beginning of each adventure, which ends with guessing, and then preparing, a dish before the twins can set out on another adventure. Sounds like ‘Just Add Magic’, the US series? But if those recipes were more of imagination and less of reality, sprinkled throughout the book are easy recipes inspired by these key historical moments. Now, that’s a yummy adventure!
