It’s not just drugs that can be detected by oral, blood, and urine drug testing. Nicotine use can also be detected, which is why you need to learn how to pass a nicotine test for health insurance, surgery, and other essential purposes.
In this guide I’m going to tell you about four different products and how to use them. If you’re in a hurry, you can look at them now:
- Toxin Rid Detoxification Pills
- Oral Clear Saliva Neutralizing Gum
- Sub Solution & Quick Luck Synthetic Urine
- Rescue Cleanse Detox Drink
I’ll tell you everything you need to know to pass an oral, saliva, blood, and urine nicotine test, even if you are facing one at short notice and need fast options.
Situations Where You Could Face A Nicotine Drug Test
Although the nicotine test is far less well-known and talked about them drug testing, the reasons you could face one, and the consequences of failure, can actually be more serious than just losing your job.
For example:
- Could form part of a child custody case
- Required to continue smoking cessation program
- Proof of stopping smoking to get surgery
- Proof of not smoking for favorable health and life insurance access
The test you could face could take several forms. It could be a urine test, saliva test, blood test (rarely), and very occasionally a hair strand test.
Each of these has different challenges for passing them when you would fail if you are tested naturally, but thankfully, there are several great strategies for getting around this problem.
A Nicotine Test Doesn’t Actually Look For Nicotine
Here’s the thing about a nicotine drug test, it doesn’t actually check for nicotine at all. It checks but cotinine, a byproduct of nicotine that is created when it’s processed in the body.
Cotinine remains detectable for longer than nicotine, which is the reason why it’s looked for instead.
Even a non-smoker has cotinine in their body. But it’s usually a very small amount of around 10 ng/mL.
A light smoker, say an occasional social smoker, who smoked a couple of cigarettes in the past two or three days, could have around 50 mg/mL of cotinine in their blood.
But it’s the heavy daily smoker where the levels rocket up. Smoking daily, you will have cotinine levels in your bloodstream of around 500 ng/mL, or even higher.
How Long Does Cotinine Remain Detectable In The Body?
The average maximum detection times for cotinine is quite low: four days or less in blood, saliva, and urine.
But, that’s for an “moderate” smoker. What on earth is a moderate smoker though? Well, is just the average of tested people in the sample size, but it doesn’t take into account people who are heavier than moderate smokers.
For people who smoke more days of the week than not, or every day, those times skyrocket. Seven days or longer, and even up to 2 weeks if your health isn’t great either (lower processing and elimination of toxins).
If you’re a regular daily smoker, and any of the following aren’t ideal, then your detection time will shoot up dramatically:
- The amount you smoke
- Level of body fat (cotinine is retained in body fat longer)
- Level exercise
- Speed metabolism
- Overall health
- State of your diet
- Lung health
- Your age
The poorer those measures become for you, the worse they are, the higher the time will be. It could be even as long as 10 days for a blood sample, and two weeks or longer in urine or saliva.
Note that for hair drug testing, which can only be dealt with through something called the Macujo method, cotinine would be detected for 90 days. That’s because the standard length of hair that tracks the most recent 90 days growth is sampled and tested.
Vaping, Patches, And Nicotine Gum Can All Still Get You Caught
Even if you don’t smoke tobacco, you can still fail a cotinine test. How are you going to prove you aren’t smoking tobacco?
Vaping, patches, and nicotine gum all release significant quantities nicotine into your body.
Therefore, it is vital that you tell whoever is commissioning the test that you are using any of these sources of nicotine, so they can potentially use a different sort of test which also confirms tobacco use, or not.
Can A Nicotine Swab Test Detect THC?
Some people worry about the question can a nicotine swab test detect THC. If you’re a weed smoker, and you’re going for a nicotine test, then that could obviously be problematic if it’s looking for more than one substance.
Most of the time, especially for specific purposes like surgery, insurance, and smoking cessation, they will only do a nicotine (cotinine) test.
However, in some circumstances it could just be one panel on a drug test that contains other panels which detect other substances.
So it depends if it’s a single panel test for nicotine, or a multi-panel drug test that looks for other substances. Do not be afraid to ask in advance; asking does not incriminate you.
How To Detox For A Cotinine Urine Test
If you’re facing a urine test to detect cotinine, then you have two options to pass:
If it’s an unsupervised drug test (you are not observed when you urinate) then the best way to pass is to use a high-quality synthetic urine like Sub Solution or Quick Luck.
If it’s a supervised test, or you just don’t want to use fake urine, then your only option is a high-quality detox drink like Rescue Cleanse, which will mask the toxins in your body for around three hours so you can submit a clean sample.
Sub Solution and Quick Luck are the best fake urine products to use. They are highly complex, and will fool all but the highest level of scrutiny.
Plus, both of these products use heat activator powder rather than a heatpad. That allows you to exactly heat up the sample to within the correct temperature range (between 90°F and 100°F), just before you go into the building to submit your test.
Quick Luck is slightly more expensive, but it is premixed. If you’ve got enough notice, then Sub Solution is perfectly fine to use, having the same basic formula.
Rescue Cleanse is the best detox drink to use if you wish to do that instead. It’s complex enough to force out the toxins faster than natural, creating a gap in the natural toxin flow of a few hours.
It also replaces what’s been flushed out, so your sample does not appear adulterated, through flooding your body with things found in urine so that some are passed through as waste in the correct proportions.
How To Detox For A Cotinine Oral Test
If you’re facing an oral test for cotinine, then it could be problematic because of the short notice nature of being able to perform an oral test. You may not even know you’re facing one until the last minute.
That’s why I would only recommend you look at using Oral Clear saliva neutralizing gum. It’s not actually gum at all, it’s a highly concentrated capsule of detoxification liquid.
Even with someone in the room, you can discreetly put it in your mouth, pop the capsule and move the liquid around, using your tongue to focus on the gumline and lower inner cheeks.
You can then swallow the lot, leaving no trace physically, and no detectable traces on drug test, to leave you clean for about 15 minutes.
How To Detox For A Cotinine Blood Test
To detox for a blood test, or is a slower alternative strategies pass a urine test, you can get naturally clean by doing a natural detoxification that is accelerated using high-quality detox pills.
Toxin rid are the detox pills I would recommend you use. They are potent, and are available in course lengths of between one day and 10 days in length. The higher course lengths are recommended for daily tobacco smokers (five, seven, and 10 day Toxin Rid courses).
They can speed up the removal of toxins by up to 75%. If it would take you two weeks to get clean naturally, then you can be clean in just five days when using Toxin Rid alongside the principles of natural detoxification (small lean meals, plenty of exercise, sweat, sleep well, drink plenty of water, cut out all toxins).
Where To Buy A Nicotine Detox Drink, Synthetic Urine, And Detox Pills
I’m only going to recommend high-quality brands to you here. Swapping them out for cheaper options simply won’t work.
Oral Clear saliva neutralizing gum is available from Clear Choice.
Rescue Cleanse, Sub Solution, and Quick Luck synthetic urine, are all available from Clear Choice.
If you’re facing a nicotine test, decide on your strategy and get them in stock now.
Just a note, that if you are going to use Toxin Rid detox pills, which are available from test clear, then get yourself a good quality nicotine test kit from them as well.
Nicotine Test FAQ
Will insurance test for nicotine without saying?
For some insurance policies acceptance you may have to undergo a drug test. However, in reality, this is rare and affects less than 5% of new policies for all types of insurance.
If you are to be tested then you will be notified in advance. It is your right to request to know what you are being tested for.
Even if for some reason they refuse, you can assume it will look for nicotine as smoking definitely increases insurance prices for all types of health/life insurance.
Do health insurance companies test for nicotine?
It is actually very rare that a health insurance company would test for nicotine. They reserve the right to drug test before offering you a policy and price, and the price is dictated by the medical exam (if it’s that type of health insurance).
If they do a drug test then they will look for nicotine. Any drug use other than marijuana is an instant refusal on giving you health insurance. Any elevated presence of nicotine/cotinine will also raise the price, so it’s a safe guarantee that if they do any sort of drug test then they are also looking for nicotine.
How long does it take to detox from nicotine?
A light smoker can detox from nicotine in around four days. A moderate smoker (more days of the week than not) can detox in a week or less.
However, if you are a multiple times per day daily tobacco smoker, this could be longer than a week. If you are also in poor health, have a slow metabolism, just don’t process the toxins fast for some reason, or are obese, then it could be as long as two weeks (and some studies have shown even 10 days in blood).
Is there any nicotine detox home remedy?
There is no nicotine detox home remedy. You need to either mask the toxins by submitting a fake urine sample (Sub Solution) or using a high-quality detox drink (rescue Cleanse).
For an oral drug test, use Oral Clear saliva neutralizing gum.
For a blood test, detox in advance at an accelerated rate using Toxin Rid detox pills.
How long does nicotine stay in your system?
A light smoker will keep nicotine in their system for about four days. A moderate smoker up to 7, and a heavy smoker as long as 14 days.
How long does nicotine stay in your blood after vaping?
Nicotine stays in your blood after vaping for exactly the same amount of time as ingesting it by any other means. For a light user around four days, moderate user up to 7 days, and a heavy daily user up to 10 days.
Does nicotine show up in a normal blood test?
Nicotine levels will show up on a normal blood test. That’s irrelevant though, and what matters is what is actually being looked for because they don’t look for every single compound on a normal blood test. So unless it’s an actual test which will state the levels of nicotine, then they will not be stated or declared.
How to flush nicotine out fast?
Flushing nicotine out of system fast requires the use of Toxin Rid detox pills alongside a natural detox for several days. Doing this can speed up the elimination of toxins by about 50%-70%.
What level of cotinine do employers test for?
Employers do not look for cotinine in any standard drug testing that they perform for pre-employment, or during employment. This is something that is simply not going to affect your employment.
What is cotinine test?
The cotinine test is a type the panel drug test looks for cotinine, a byproduct of nicotine, that stays in the blood longer and is therefore more traceable than nicotine.
