ART MUMBAI Concludes with Exceptional Engagement, Strong Sales, and a New Benchmark for South Asian Art
Mumbai: ART MUMBAI 2025 closed its third edition with exceptional momentum, marking a defining moment for the city and for India’s art ecosystem. Over four days, from November 13 to 16, 2025, the fair was abuzz with exceptional engagement with over 26,000 visitors across all days and several galleries achieving significant sales and transactions, reflecting the continued rise of South Asia’s art market and the expanding appetite for both modern and contemporary art. Featuring 82 leading Indian and international galleries this year, the fair has grown by over 60 percent since its debut in 2023, in terms of exhibitor participation. Indian stalwarts such as Chemould Prescott Road, Nature Morte, DAG, Vadehra Art Gallery, Tarq and Experimenter showed alongside internationally renowned names such as Lisson Gallery, Sundaram Tagore Gallery, Ben Brown Fine Arts, Sabrina Amrani, and Galleria Continua.
Robust sales were posted across contemporary and modern galleries, with several sold out, and several having to re-hang their booths over the course of the fair. Lisson Gallery from London reported strong sales of works by Anish Kapoor, Olga de Amaral and Otobong Nkanga, including to new clients in India. Several galleries sold 90% of the works in their booths. Vadehra Art Gallery from Delhi sold 90% of its booth, including works by A Ramachandran. Tarq too sold 90% of its booth. Akara Contemporary sold out all their editions of Tarik Currimbhoy’s work. Nature Morte sold well and placed Asim Waqif, Tanya Goel, Subodh Gupta and Raghav Babbar with institutions. Chatterjee and Lal from Mumbai sold about 80% of its works. Emerging artists received exceptional attention, with several first-time exhibitors earning strong sales and critical visibility.
In the Moderns hangar, Volte Gallery sold a major Manjit Bawa on the first day while the Crites Collection & ICA Gallery exhibiting indigenous art sold 80% of works, with over half sold to international visitors. Ojas Art also sold 90% of its booth. Art and Beyond sold a Ram Kumar and a S H Raza. Dhoomimal Gallery sold a significant work by Sadanand Bakre and an important J Swaminathan. Chawla Art Gallery sold an Abanindranath Tagore to an institutional collector. Grosvenor Gallery from London sold several pieces to new clients from India. Overseas collectors from Australia, Morocco, Russia and Saudi Arabia also made notable purchases.
Exhibitors were particularly delighted to meet many new clients -- from ultra-high net worth individuals to top collectors.
Curators from the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Louvre Abu Dhabi, Ishara Foundation, Ashmolean Museum, LACMA, Indian Ocean Craft Triennial and Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Sri Lanka, were spotted.
A major solo exhibition titled ‘Tyeb Mehta - Bearing Weight (with the lightness of being)’, commemorated the birth centenary of one of India’s most iconic modernists. The one-of-its-kind exhibition, presented by the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA) with the Tyeb Mehta Foundation and the Saffronart Foundation, saw an exceptional number of visitors, enthralled by this milestone retrospective within the fair ground.
Alongside presenting artworks, across talks, performances, and curated walks, ART MUMBAI facilitated rich cultural dialogue and meaningful exchange, further establishing the fair as a thought leader in the region.
“Our vision has always been to showcase the depth and global relevance of South Asian art,” said founders Minal and Dinesh Vazirani, Nakul Dev Chawla, and Conor Macklin. “This edition shows how the axis is shifting. South Asia is moving from being a region in the global art conversation to becoming one of the forces shaping it. We are deeply grateful to our sponsors and partners for helping make this possible.” Growing beyond the conventions of a traditional art fair, ART MUMBAI now serves as a cultural platform, with the collateral events across the city making it a weeklong celebration of art, reflecting Mumbai’s unmatched creative energy.
