Automobile majors Maruti, Tata, Hyundai report drop in July sales

Passenger vehicle wholesale domestic volumes in July turned out to be a mixed bag for automobile makers in the country, as some logged volume growth while some others saw negative sales.
The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor, Tata Motors, Honda Cars registered decline in sales, while Mahindra & Mahindra, Toyota Kirloskar Motor and Kia Motor witnessed growth.
Maruti Suzuki registered total domestic PV sales of 1,37,463 units in July 2024 compared to 1,52,126 units in July 2023, witnessing a 9.6 per cent sales decline. The company registered decline in sales in compact, mid-size, UV and van segment.
Last month, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) sold 49,013 units in the domestic market, witnessing a 3.3 percent decline in YoY sales compared to 50,701 in July 2023. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited, both subsidiaries of Tata Motors Limited, also witnessed decline of 6 per cent in passenger vehicle sales. For July 2024, the company sales stood at 44,725 units compared to 47,628 units in July 2023.
Utility vehicle maker Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd sold 41,623 vehicles in the domestic market, a growth of 15 per cent. For the second consecutive month, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has outperformed its sales achievement by registering best-ever monthly wholesale. While domestic sales accounted for 29,533 units, exports totalled to 2,123 units during the month.
Kia India registers 2.5% Y-O-Y growth compared to the 20,002 units sold in July 2023.
