Delhi HC questions Priya’s plea to disclose Sunjay Kapur’s assets in sealed cover
Says such order can complicate proceedings
The Delhi High Court on Thursday expressed reservations over Priya Kapur’s request to file the details of her late husband Sunjay Kapur’s assets and liabilities in a sealed cover, while hearing the ongoing partition dispute initiated by Sunjay’s children from his marriage with actor Karisma Kapoor.
Justice Jyoti Singh, before whom the application was moved, noted that such an order could complicate the proceedings. “It may be problematic for the simple reason that as the alleged beneficiaries of the estate, the children have a right to question the assets disclosed. If they are bound by a confidentiality club, how will they ever be able to defend their case?” the judge asked.
Senior Advocate Shyel Trehan, appearing for Priya Kapur, argued that the request was limited to protecting sensitive financial information. “There has been excessive media scrutiny. Pleadings are leaking, bank details are at risk. This is also a cybersecurity concern. I am not refusing disclosure, I am only seeking that it be placed in a sealed cover to avoid leaks to the public or media,” she said. Trehan further alleged that even lawyers in the case were providing details to the press.
