Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad—celebrated National Entrepreneurship Day 2025 at Leh under the aegis of Enterprising Ladakh an initiative of Department of Higher Education UT Ladakh Implemented by EDII Ahmedabad.
The event marked a milestone moment for Ladakh’s entrepreneurial landscape, bringing together students, enterprises, and institutions under one roof.
The event was graced by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh as the Chief Guest, alongside Dr. Sunil Shukla, Director General, EDII, Ms. Bhanu Prabha (IAS), Secretary higher education, Shri Rudra Gaud (IAS), Secretary Industries UT Ladakh, Vice-Chancellor, University of Ladakh, Director DIHAR, Ministry of Defense, Director NIELIT, Ministry of IT and Electronics and other distinguished guests from various government departments and social sector.
In his keynote address, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized the crucial role of entrepreneurship in shaping Ladakh’s future. He applauded the Enterprising Ladakh initiative for enabling youth and rural communities to pursue self-employment, saying:
“Entrepreneurship is not merely about business; it is about building the confidence to solve local problems with local resources. Ladakh’s youth have the potential to lead India’s frontier of sustainable entrepreneurship, and I am glad that institutions like EDII are providing them with the right direction and mentorship.”
He commended EDII’s efforts in supporting the Union Territory through capacity building, enterprise facilitation, and grassroots mentoring—laying a strong foundation for long-term economic resilience.
Dr. Sunil Shukla, DG, EDII, reflected on the journey of the Enterprising Ladakh project, highlighting that this partnership is a model for high-altitude entrepreneurship.
“At EDII, we believe in igniting local talent with entrepreneurial capabilities. Ladakh represents the essence of innovation under constraint, and we are proud to see the outcomes of this initiative taking shape in the region,” he stated.
Adding to the sentiment, Ms. Bhanu Prabha, expressed:
“Entrepreneurship has immense potential to bring transformative socio-economic change to Ladakh. The youth, particularly women and students, are showing tremendous enthusiasm. EDII’s consistent support and structured training are ensuring these dreams take shape.”
A major highlight of the celebration was the Entrepreneurship Exhibition which showcased 60 vibrant stalls representing enterprises from across Leh, Kargil, Sham, and Nubra. Over 100 local entrepreneurs participated, displaying diverse products ranging from natural and organic items to handicrafts, textiles, traditional foods, and wellness products.
Among the key features, the “Enterprising Ladakh Product wall the Wall of Student Entrepreneurship Hope” drew exceptional attention. This interactive installation displayed stories, ideas, and products by student entrepreneurs from across Ladakh symbolizing the dreams and determination of the region’s young innovators. capturing the essence of Ladakh’s emerging entrepreneurial spirit.
The exhibition also included demonstrations of value-added products such as apricot oil, herbal teas, and eco-friendly crafts, many of which have been nurtured through EDII’s enterprise development interventions. The initiative has already facilitated 170 + Udyam and FSSAI registrations, mentoring sessions, and skill-building programs to promote market-ready entrepreneurship in remote regions.
Visitors, dignitaries, and community members expressed admiration for the enterprising efforts of the youth and women participants. The energy at the venue reflected the growing confidence that entrepreneurship can bring lasting self-reliance and sustainability to Ladakh’s economy.
The event in Leh marked the grand inauguration of the National Entrepreneurship Day Fortnight (November 9–23, 2025) to be celebrated across India under the guidance of EDII.
During this fortnight, awareness programs, training sessions, and exhibitions will be held in schools, colleges, and rural clusters to promote entrepreneurial thinking among the youth. The initiative will also include enterprise mentoring camps, product display drives, and storytelling sessions featuring local entrepreneurs who have turned challenges into opportunities.
The fortnight aims to build continuity in the entrepreneurial momentum of Enterprising Ladakh, ensuring that every aspiring innovator whether a student, artisan, or farmer finds a platform to express their ideas and grow their ventures.
Through Enterprising Ladakh, EDII has been playing a catalytic role in shaping the entrepreneurial ecosystem of the Union Territory.
As the event concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Prof. Amit Kumar Dwivedi, Project Director, Enterprising Ladakh initiative, participants shared a collective sentiment of pride and gratitude. The celebration not only honored the entrepreneurial journey so far but also paved the way for the next generation of innovators.
The celebration of National Entrepreneurship Day 2025 in Leh stood as a testament to what collaboration, vision, and community-driven innovation can achieve. With EDII’s steadfast support and Ladakh’s determination to build a sustainable and inclusive economy, the mountains now echo with a new rhythm — the rhythm of enterprise, hope, and self-reliance.
