India and the US were engaged in high-level trade discussions at various levels, covering both trade and non-trade issues, a senior official said in New Delhi. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, currently in the US for trade talks, reportedly, emphasised India’s intent to bolster energy imports from the US as part of the trade discussions.

Accompanied by senior officials, including India’s chief negotiator Rajesh Agrawal, Goyal is expected to return later this week. He has held meeting with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on Monday, according to reports.

Speaking at event organised by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) in New York on Tuesday, Goyal said, “India is committed to diversifying its energy sources, and we see the US as a key partner in increasing our energy imports, which will strengthen our economic partnership.”
