New Delhi, November 8
To safeguard the interest of consumers, the Centre today made month and year in which a commodity is manufactured and declaration of MRP in Indian currency inclusive of all taxes mandatory for pre-packed products.
According to an official statement, the Department of Consumer Affairs under Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution omitted the Rule 5 of the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities), Rules 2011 defining the Schedule II prescribing the pack sizes of various types of commodities.
A new provision has been introduced to indicate the unit sale price on pre-packed commodities, which will allow easier comparison of prices of the commodities at the time of purchase, it added.
The amendments will come into effect from April 1 2022. — TNS
