NTPC’s third quarter profit up 23% at Rs 3,198 crore

New Delhi: State-run power giant NTPC on Friday reported around 23% jump in consolidated net profit at Rs 3,197.93 crore in December quarter, mainly due to higher revenues. The company had posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 2,608.18 crore in October-December quarter of 2018, a BSE filing said. According to the statement, total income of the company rose to Rs 25,953.09 crore during the quarter under review from Rs 25,677.09 crore a year ago. PTI

Credit Suisse chief quits as spy scandal swells

Geneva: The head of Credit Suisse, Tidjane Thiam, on Friday said he would step down next week, as a ballooning spying scandal rocks Switzerland’s second largest bank. Thiam’s position appeared untenable after revelations that the bank had spied on its employees and a former top executive, and allegation it was also keeping tabs on Greenpeace. “I have agreed with the Board that I will step down from my role as CEO,” Thiam said. He will be replaced by Thomas Gottstein. AFP

Comprehensive FTA with US not on agenda: Piyush Goyal

New Delhi: The government on Friday said currently, India is not negotiating a comprehensive free-trade agreement (FTA) with the US. “No, Sir. At present, India is not negotiating a comprehensive FTA with the US,” Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha. Both the countries are negotiating a trade package kind of a thing with a view to resolve trade irritants and push two-way commerce. A US team is likely to visit India soon. PTI
