Record Diwali sales showcase nation’s economic strength: CAIT
Research report shows GST rate relief and the adoption of Swadeshi practices have inspired both traders and consumers
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) said record-breaking Diwali sales reflect India’s economic strength.
Harish Garg, President of CAIT’s Chandigarh Chapter, said sales across the country this Diwali reached Rs 6.05 lakh crore, including both goods and services, marking the largest festive business in the country’s trade history.
He added that CAIT has released a detailed research report on Diwali Festival Sales 2025, based on a survey conducted by its research wing, CAIT Research and Trade Development Society, across 60 major distribution centres nationwide, including Chandigarh.
Garg said the report shows that GST rate relief and the adoption of Swadeshi practices have inspired both traders and consumers in an unprecedented way.
He also noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Swadeshi Diwali’ resonated deeply with the public. According to the report, 87 per cent of consumers preferred Indian goods over foreign ones, leading to a sharp decline in demand for Chinese products.
