Since 2014, Rs 16.93 lakh crore of investment have been made in the power and renewable energy sector and Rs 17.05 lakh crore of investment is in the pipeline, Union Power Minister RK Singh said on Monday.

Of 17.05 lakh crore, Rs 7.4 lakh crore would be invested in the power sector and Rs 9.65 lakh crore in the renewable energy sector.

He said there were thousands of villages which even after 70 years of India’s Independence did not see electricity. “Since 2014, such villages were connected with electricity,” he said.

He revealed that 80 GW of thermal power generation capacity was under construction till 2030. “India’s power generation capacity will increase to over 800 GW from about 428 GW at present. India has planned to bid 50GW of renewable energy projects every year,” he said.
