Says his priority is to end the conflict
US President Donald Trump met leaders from the Arab and Muslim world on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York to discuss ways to end the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
The meeting was attended by leaders from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Indonesia and Pakistan. Ahead of the discussions, Trump said his priority was to end the conflict.
Pakistan’s PM Shehbaz Sharif was also present at the summit and briefly interacted with Trump after the meeting. He will also travel to Washington to meet Trump.
“We want to end the war in Gaza. We’re going to end it. Maybe we can end it right now. This is my most important meeting... because we’re going to end something that should have probably never started,” Trump said.
As per Times of Israel, the US President, during the meeting, presented a plan for ending the Gaza war, which is based on a proposal crafted by former UK PM Tony Blair.
Reportedly, Turkish President Recep Erdogan said, “I’m satisfied — may the outcome be beneficial” and indicated that a joint declaration was expected soon.
