CAA, NRC unconstitutional, says Sangharsh Committee

Many unions, under the banner of Lok Sangharsh Committee, held a meeting today in a run up to the state-level protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Calling the CAA and NRC as “unconstitutional”, committees said they would hold a state-level protest at Ludhiana on March 25 to oppose those “divisive” laws.

Committee members said that they would go house-to-house to make people aware of the “divisive” and “discriminatory” Citizenship Amendment Act and the NRC.

Government teacher Vikram Dev, a committee member, said the central government was out to attack on the very soul of the Constitution with the CAA and the NRC. The said laws were a precursor to Fascism, said Dev.

“The incumbent central government want to polarise the country on religious lines. The CAA is an attack on a particular minority community to please the majority population. We will make people aware about the CAA and to collectively fight against it,” added Dev.

Talking about NRC, another committee member, Khuswant Singh said it would take the slogan of ‘Khagaz ni Dikhange’ to each household to mark the protest.

“This is an existential fight for every citizen of the country,” he said. “People, in large numbers, would hold a protest against the NRC and the CAA in Ludhiana.”
