Lukewarm response to strike in Panipat, Sonepat

No major impact of strike was witnessed on essential services in Panipat and Sonepat on Wednesday. The strike call was given by central trade unions and various employees’ organisations. Government employees and members of various unions organised a protest and submitted a memorandum of demands to the district administration.

The joint protest was organised under an overbridge near the Mini Secretariat. Members of the Roadways Karamchari Sanjha Morcha, BBMB employees union, Retired Employees Organisation, Haryana Kisan Sabha, Haryana Khet Mazdoor Union, Nagar Palika Karamchari Sangh, Power Employees Union, The Revenue Patwar and Kanungo Association, Anganwadi Workers’ Union, CITU and other employees associations gathered at the Mini Secretariat and raised slogans against the BJP led central and state governments.

Employees also took out a procession from Kisan Bhawan to Assandh Road, which passed by Samvidhan Chowk at Red Light on the NH-44 and went up to the DC office where they staged a joint protest.

The Roadways Karamchari Sanjha Morcha supported the nationwide strike, but no major impact was seen on buses’ operation. Almost all buses plied on their respective routes. Later, employees submitted memorandum to the district administration.

Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) state president Surekha, state secretary Sunil Dutt, Sarva Karamchari Sangh district president Amrish Tyagi, district secretary Shiv Kumar, Tourism Employees Union state president Kashmir Singh, AITEK state general secretary Daryao Singh Kashyap and district president Pawan Saini, and other leaders addressed employees on the occasion.

In Sonepat, members of various employees’ unions of several departments and central trade unions organised a protest today. But, no effect was seen on daily routine work in government offices or other essential services in the city. — TNS
