Sector 26 club, Chandigarh Hockey Academy in finals

Sri Guru Gobind Singh Hockey Club, Sector 26, will face Chandigarh Hockey Academy (CHA) in both finals of the State Junior Men and Women Hockey Championships, at the Sector 42 Sports Complex tomorrow.

In the first semifinal today, Puneet scored twice as CHA defeated Panjab University Club 4-0.

Puneet (15th, 28th) converted two penalty corners to give CHA a comfortable two-goal lead. In the 31st minute, Sahil netted the first field goal for the side, and Pawan netted the final goal in the 52nd minute by converting another penalty corner.

In the second semifinal, Prabhjot posted two goals to help the Sector 26 team registered a 3-0 win over Rock Rovers Hockey Club.

Prabhjot put the team ahead in the second minute, and doubled the lead in the fourth minute. In the 19th minute, Prabhjot (junior) netted the last goal and thereafter the side held most of the ball possession.

In the women’s semifinal, the Sector 26 team pumped five goals against Panjab University Hockey Club. Gurmail netted the opening goal in the third minute, while Kajal made it 3-0 by netting a goal each in the sixth and seventh minute. Gurmail came up with another strike in the 25th minute, and Kamaldeep signed off with style with the last goal as the side logged a comfortable 5-0 win.

In another semifinal, CHA Blue defeated CHA Red 3-2. The only semifinal, which witnessed a neck-to-neck competition also saw some tense moments.

It was the Blue team which moved ahead on the score board with Annu netting the opener in second minute.

After this strike, both the team struggled to find the net but it was Red team’s Tamanna who levelled the score in 32nd minute.

Just two minutes later, Annu once again put the Blue team ahead, but Harvinder scored for the Red team in the 41st minute.

As the match was moving towards the end, Happy came up with a stunning goal in the 47th minute to help the Blue team march into the final.
