Earlier in October last year, the police had arrested Dattatreya Kundu (30). During interrogation, Kundu had reportedly given details of the kingpin, who was operating a fake call centre.

The accused has been identified as Krishanu Acharyya (31), a BTech graduate, hailing from Kolkata. The complainant, a retired Colonel, had reported to the police that he was using online dating apps. The complainant had received a call from a woman who asked him if he wanted to be friends. He fell into the trap and transferred a total Rs 16.50 lakh.

Krishanu Acharyya used to create fake profiles on dating apps and the victims were made to talk to girls working in his call centre. The victims were then lured and asked to transfer money to avail different services offered by the centre. The police said there was one more case of cheating registered against Krishanu in Mumbai.
