The court of Additional Sessions Judge Rajeev K Beri sentenced a 27-year-old youth, who had dragged a young woman and injured her near Elante Mall in August last year, to one-year rigorous imprisonment.

The convict, Suraj Sharma, was trying to snatch a mobile phone and a purse from the victim, Renu of Ram Darbar. However, she raised the alarm following which passersby nabbed him.

In her complaint to the police, Renu of Ram Darbar had stated that she worked at Elante Mall and left the workplace on foot around 8 pm after calling it a day. She said as she reached the poultry farm chowk, a youth came from behind, gagged her with his hand and took her towards jungle area where it was pitch dark. The area was muddy due to which she and the attacker fell down. In the meantime, the convict snatched a mobile phone and a small purse from her and tried to flee.

A case under Sections 392 , 411 and379-A of the IPC was registered.

The court found the youth guilty and awarded one-year rigorous imprisonment to him. The court also imposed a fine of Rs2,000 on the youth. He shall undergo rigorous imprisonment for one month in case the fine was not paid.
