Rs 10-crore road infrastructure push for Mohali

Roads in Mohali are set to be upgraded as road infrastructure projects worth Rs 10 crore have been initiated. The work already begun at a few sites. By the next week, the work on the remaining stretches will also commence.

The major roads being taken up under the Rs 10 crore development initiative are the Landran–Kharar–Chappar Chiri Khurd road, the Kharar–Banur road, the Tangori road (worth Rs 2.5 crore), the Sheikh Majra–Kurda road, the Raipur–Andhrali road, the Tangori–Manakpur Kallar road, the Jhanjheri–Alipur road, the Bakarpur–Safeepur road, the Gige Majra–Jatana road, the Chachu Majra–Bakarpur–Jhungian road via Gurdwara Sahib, Sector 82 to Manauli road, Dau to Ramgarh road and Landran Road. The work on the Sector 89 road and the CP-67 Airport Road is already in progress.

The condition of a road in Phase 3 is being examined as it was damaged within a short span of its construction. Responsibility of the contractor or officer concerned will be fixed.

“With the completion of these projects, nearly 90% roads in the Mohali constituency will be upgraded, benefiting thousands of daily commuters and boosting overall development,” said Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh.

“Some roads are being widened from existing 10–12 feet to 18 feet, which required additional time for planning and approval. Despite initial delays due to deliberations over technical aspects and monsoon rains, the work is now moving at fast pace,” he added.

The legislator said repair and strengthening clauses had been included in the agreements, making contractors accountable for any future damage to the roads. He assured that monitoring mechanism was in place to check the quality of work and its timely completion.
