The police have arrested 10 members of an inter-state gang of thieves, including women, involved in several incidents of theft in jewellery shops in Mohali, besides Himachal’s Bilaspur and Nalagarh during the past some days.

Those arrested have been identified as Ghaziabad residents Ashiya (55), Jaida (55), Asmin (35), Mehrunisah, (65), Nargis (42), Khatun (56), Sajid (34), Munne Khan, (45), Najim (45) and Insar (56).

The police recovered two cars, 92-gm gold ornaments and 1.85-kg silver ornaments from the arrested.

All accused are related to each other. They had committed thefts in jewellery shops in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and UP.

The gang members used to enter shops wearing fake jewellery and would cleverly replace genuine jewellery with it. They would also steal jewellery by engaging shopkeeper in a conversation.

They were arrested from two locations in Panchkula and from near toll plaza at Sarsavan on October 4.
