The UT Administration today constituted 10 Standing Committees of the UT Administrator’s Advisory Council on various subjects consisting of experts from various fields. The chairperson in seven of the 10 committees is from the BJP.
City BJP president Jatinder Pal Malhotra has been appointed as chairman along with six other members, including Panjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Renu Vig and Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla, of the Standing Committee on Education.
Former Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Gian Chand Gupta has been appointed as chairman of the environment committee along with six other members, including Urvarshi Gulati, former Haryana Chief Secretary.
Dr Raj Bahadur, Director, Regional Spinal Injury Centre, Mohali, has been appointed as chairman of the health committee, along with six other members, including former UT MP Kirron Kher and PGIMER Director Dr Vivek Lal.
Chandigarh MP and Congress leader Manish Tewari has been appointed as chairman of the committee on art, culture, tourism and heritage preservation, along with six other members, including city Congress president HS Lucky, former Mayor Davesh Moudgil and Mohd Furqan, Director, North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala.
Rajya Sabha member Satnam Singh Sandhu has been appointed as chairman of the committee on law and order along with five other members, including former AAP Mayor Kuldeep Kumar.
City AAP president Vijay Pal Singh has been appointed as chairman of the committee on transportation along with five other members, including senior advocate Chetan Mittal.
Senior BJP leader and UT Cricket Association president Sanjay Tandon has been appointed as chairman of sports committee, along with three other members. BJP leader and former Mayor Anup Gupta has been appointed as chairman of committee on urban infrastructure and planning for the city along with five other members.
Additional Solicitor General Satya Pal Jain has been appointed chairman of the social welfare committee along with four other members. BJP leader Subhash Chawla has been appointed as chairman along with three other members of peripheral area development committee.
The term of these committees will be contemporaneous with the term of the council.
