The police successfully traced and reunited a 10-year-old mentally challenged girl with her family within three hours after she was found wandering alone near the Commissioner of Police’s office on Saturday evening.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shrishti Gupta, Mansa Devi police station received a call around 7.30 pm about a young girl found alone in a distressed state. Acting swiftly, Inspector Virender Nain’s team reached the spot and took the child into protective custody.

After initial questioning, the child was unable to provide her address. Juvenile Welfare Officer Sub-Inspector Pradeep and Woman Constable Poonam tried to identify her residence by driving through nearby areas based on the girl’s gestures, but their efforts were initially unsuccessful.

The team then circulated her information through police WhatsApp groups, where it was soon discovered that a missing person report had been filed for the same child earlier that day at Manimajra Police Station in Chandigarh.

Using technical assistance and coordination with the Chandigarh Police, the girl’s identity was confirmed. By 10 pm, she was safely handed over to her family.
