Fatehgarh Sahib, June 21
The Khamano police have recovered 100 boxes of liquor meant for sale in Chandigarh from a specially constructed cabin of a Canter and arrested its driver identified as Mohammad Hanif, a resident Tarasanu village, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.
ASI Taranjit Singh said the police were conducting checking of vehicles and intercepted a Canter bearing registration number of Himachal Pradesh. During search, the police recovered 100 cartons of smuggled liquor meant for sale in Chandigarh, the ASI said.
The Canter driver admitted that he smuggled liquor from Chandigarh and sold it at higher rates in Punjab and Haryana by shifting these boxes in another vehicle bearing registration numbers of the two states, the ASI added.
The police have registered a case against the accused in this connection, the ASI said.
