As many as 11 members of the Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) have written to the secretary of the association, demanding an immediate executive general body meeting, which they claim didn’t take place frequently in the past two years.

“The PUTA has remained inactive for the last two years as few meetings of the executive general body had been called. An amount of Rs 11,10,384 (approximately) is lying in fixed deposits while sufficient money (more than Rs 5 lakh) for the day-to-day functioning of the association is available in the PUTA bank accounts,” claimed the representation by the members.

It further stated that, “All those members who have paid subscription/membership fee during the last year should not be charged any membership fee this year. Besides, they should be considered eligible for voting for the session of 2024-25. However, those who couldn’t pay the membership fee last year be contacted for the annual subscription. An immediate executive meeting should be called to decide PUTA election schedule as per the constitution.”

“Members of PUTA are cautioned against any misleading statements against paying the subscription fee. The body’s constitution mandates the payment of subscription fee by every member as a condition for voting. Therefore, PUTA office-bearers are duty bound to initiate the process for collection of subscription fee to ensure timely elections,” said Amarjeet Naura, president, PUTA.
