During a visit to the mandi, enforcement teams caught three stockists selling plastic carry bags. The banned items were seized and the stockists were issued challans. The seized plastic was transported to the dry waste processing plant for shredding.

An MC official said the UT Administration had banned single-use plastic items, including plastic carry bags and non-woven carry bags, in 2019.

The Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee and the MC regularly conduct awareness activities and inspections to enforce the ban.
