12 rounded up in cordon and search operation at Balongi

Twelve persons were rounded up during a cordon and search operation (CASO) at Balongi here today. A case of theft and an FIR each under the NDPS Act and the Excise were registered at the Balongi police station.

Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla led the operation in Mohali. DIG Ropar Range Harcharan Singh Bhullar and Mohali SSP Deepak Pareek were present. Around 280 cops, including an SP, nine DSPs and three traffic in-charges, participated in the operation.

A state-wide special searching campaign began today at 228 hotspot areas in 25 districts and three police commissionerates.

Meanwhile, a similar operation was conducted at Rupnagar. Three SPs, 10 DSPs, 10 Inspectors and about 225 police personnel were deployed for the operation.

ADGP (Law and Order) SPS Parmar said a war-like campaign against those involved in the drug trade was being run in the state.

Last year, 15 CASOs were conducted in the district wherein 33 persons were arrested and 29 cases were registered against drug smugglers, said Rupnagar SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana.
