14 advocates appointed Bombay HC judges

The Centre has notified the appointment of 14 advocates, including CJI BR Gavai’s nephew Raj Damodar Wakode, as additional judges of the Bombay High Court.

The advocates appointed as additional judges are Siddheshwar Sundarrao Thombre, Mehroz Ashraf Khan Pathan, Ranjitsinha Raja Bhonsale, Nandesh Shankarrao Deshpande, Amit Satyavan Jamsandekar, Ashish Sahadev Chavan, Smt Vaishali Nimbajirao Patil-Jadhav, Sandesh Dadasaheb Patil, Abasaheb Dharmaji Shinde, Shreeram Vinayak Shirsat, Hiten Shamrao Venegavkar, Farhan Parvez Dubash, Rajnish Ratnakar Vyas and Raj Damodar Wakode.

The Supreme Court Collegium led by CJI BR Gavai had recommended their names last week. Patil and Shirsat have been special prosecutors for the Central Government and have represented the central probe agencies such as the CBI, NIA and the ED while Venegavkar has been the Chief Public Prosecutor of Maharashtra.

Once these judges take oath, the strength of the Bombay High Court will reaach 83 as against the sanctioned strength of 94.
