Deputy Commissioner Preeti Yadav has sanctioned Rs 15 lakh for the renovation of the Sports Department’s swimming pool.

Chairing a meeting of the District Sports Council today, she directed that the tendering process be completed without delay so that renovation work could begin at the earliest.

Taking serious note of deficiencies in the roof repair work at Gymnasium Hall in Polo Ground, the DC sought an explanation from the officials concerned. She made it clear that any negligence in providing quality facilities to sportspersons would not be tolerated.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Isha Singhal and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Navreet Kaur Sekhon were also present during the meeting.

Yadav emphasised the importance of providing athletes with world-class infrastructure as it would help them prepare for national and international competitions. She added that it was the responsibility of the Sports Department to ensure a professional and encouraging environment for all players.

She also issued instructions to immediately carry out cleanliness and maintenance work at Raja Bhalinder Singh Sports Complex (Polo Ground), noting that not only athletes but a large number of local residents visited the area daily for morning and evening exercise. She directed that public washrooms be kept clean and safe drinking water arrangements be ensured there.

Addressing coaches of various sports, Yadav urged them to pay special attention to the needs of the athletes and make them aware of the facilities and support available under initiatives of the state government.

She also reviewed the progress of sports grounds being developed in villages, through a virtual interaction with all SDMs of the district.
