A local court has convicted two persons, including a woman in an NDPS case registered two years ago. The court sentenced Poonam to undergo 15 years rigorous imprisonment while his accomplice Sandeep Khatri has been sent to jail for 10 years.

The police arrested the woman, along with his accomplice when they were travelling in a car on January 20, 2022, near the Punjab Roadways Workshop, Industrial Area, Phase-1, Chandigarh. As per the prosecution, the police seized 404.2 gm heroin from the woman and around 205.9 gm heroin from Khatri.

On seeing the police, the duo tried to escape but were apprehended. The police claimed that the international market value of the seized 610.1gm of heroin was around Rs 2 crore. After hearing the arguments the court convicted both and also imposed a fine of Rs 1.50 lakh on the woman and Rs 1 lakh fine on Khatri.
