Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mohali, has completed over 15,000 kidney transplants since its inception.
Dr Vinay Sakhuja, Senior Director, Nephrology, stated that since the hospital’s first kidney transplant in August 2013, the number of transplants had steadily grown, with more than 150 performed annually. He said, “It’s likely that this year we will close at around 200 kidney transplants.”
Dr Manish Singla, Senior Consultant, Department of Nephrology, highlighted the myths surrounding kidney transplants. He said, “People think that those with diseases of the kidney lead a limited life, but that is not the case. Through kidney transplant, a patient can live a good and long life.”
