Chandigarh: 17-day-long Gully Cricket Tournament concludes

The 17-day-long Gully Cricket Tournament concluded today as Team No 2 and Team No 203 were declared joint winners in the boys’ category. The final match scheduled at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Saturday could not be played due to rain. Meanwhile, Team No 3 and Team No 35 were declared joint winners in the girls’ category. A record 256 teams in boys’ and 46 teams in girls’ category participated in this tournament organised by the UT Cricket Association and Chandigarh Police.

The closing ceremony, which was scheduled to be held at the cricket stadium in Sector 16, was later shifted to the Bhargava Auditorium of the PGI due to rain. The winning teams were felicitated in the presence of former Indian cricketers Kapil Dev and Ashok Malhotra, along with IG, Chandigarh Police, RK Singh, UT Cricket Association’s president Sanjay Tandon and others.

Along with felicitating the winning teams, the organisers presented medical kits to the participants and hygiene kits to girl participants. During the programme, Acharya Manish, representing Asia Book of Records, presented the certificate of record and recognised this event as the tournament with the maximum number of teams.

In his address, Tandon termed all players brand ambassadors and appealed to them to motivate others to participate in the upcoming third edition of gully cricket tournament.
