Chandigarh, January 2
Just over a year after making his professional debut, 18-year-old golfer Aadil Bedi is looking to participate in as many as 20 events on the Asian and PGTI Tours this year.
Bedi made his pro debut in the 2018 Panasonic Open in Bengaluru and thereafter participated in 13 events in 2019. He has earned a total of $24,000 on the Asian Tour and over Rs 21 lakh on the PGTI Tour so far.
He finished in the top-10 in the country’s merit list by playing eight events on the PGTI domestic circuit. He played 13 events on the Asian Tour, making the cut in seven. He finished among the top-five in one tournament and also had a top-20 finish. He finished 91st in the Asian Tour merit list.
“I have around 20 championships lined up this season, but right now my focus is on attending Q (Qualifying) School in Hua Hin (Thailand) next month,” said Bedi.
“I will also attend various sessions for a period of three weeks in USA, starting from January 7. After coming back, I will be featuring in the Bangladesh Open. The Indian Open at Gurugram in March is one of the major tournaments of this year. I am upgrading my lab with new technology to analyse my swing. The previous season on the Asian Tour was good and I got a few lessons. I will try not to repeat the mistakes in the coming championships. I shot 19-under in the Tata Steel Tour, which is the lowest of my career, but a couple of bad shots kept me away from the title,” added Bedi.
Bedi is also looking to qualify for the Korn Ferry Tour in the USA (in September). “My performance at the Indian Open in March will decide a lot of things. Besides this, the Jakarta Open and Mauritius Open are among some tournaments where I am eyeing title wins,” added Bedi.
