2 bikers snatch purse from girl
Chandigarh: Two motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched a purse from a girl near the grain market in Sector 26. According to the police, the victim, a resident of Sector 12, Panchkula, reported that the miscreants snatched her purse containing a mobile phone, credit and debit cards, Rs100 and some documents on January 27. A case has been registered at the Sector 26 police station. TNS
DBU celebrates Republic Day
Chandigarh: The 72nd Republic Day was celebrated with fervour at Desh Bhagat University (DBU). Dr Zora Singh, Chancellor, DBU, unfurled the National Flag and said the nation should respect the Constitution and its founding principles of liberty, equality, fraternity and justice for all. Panel to allot vending sites
Chandigarh: The local MC will form a committee to allot appropriate sites for newly registered vendors. Vendors were harried after they were shifted from their current sites to far-off places. Councillor Jagtar Singh raised the issue in the MC House. “It’s tough for vendors to transport items and find new customers. Thus, the site should be in the same location or nearby,” he said. Mayor Ravi Kant Sharma said a committee would be constituted to address the location-related concerns of the vendors. TNS
Rs6.45L stolen from company
Panchkula: A security guard has been accused of stealing Rs6.45 lakh from a company in the Industrial Area, Phase 2, here. The owner of M/S India Circuits Private Limited, Rajnish Kumar Garg, told the police the cash, which he had kept in the locker on January 25, was missing on January 27. “I visited the company after January 26 holiday and found the locker broken and the cash missing,” the complainant said. The security guard, Dharamraj Chandravanshi, a resident of Abheypur, is also missing since then, the FIR said. A case was registered under Section 381 (theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sector 20 police station. TNS
